To visit any school in Germany, students need to have a very good command of the German language. We believe that the Humboldt-Institut is the ideal partner for your child to achieve the necessary German skills before entering a German secondary school: From the very beginning, we offer an outstanding German education thanks to our efficient and goal-oriented educational concepts, both inside and outside the classroom. Furthermore, we ensure a consistent monitoring of our students' learning progress from placement test until school transition!
Our students have the choice between our two boarding schools for German as a foreign language in Lindenberg (ages 13-17) and Bad Schussenried (ages 10-13 and 14-17) which run the same educational concept but differ in infrastructure and age composition.
Humboldt-Institut Bad Schussenried

Program steps
After the student‘s arrival at the Humboldt-Institut the following steps will be taken:
-
Placement test
At the beginning of the course the student will sit a comprehensive paper-based placement test. According to the results, which focus on the actual active German knowledge, the student will be assigned to a class with the appropriate level. -
Level tests
There will be a level test at the end of each course stage (A1, A2, B1, B2.1, B2.2, ...) which has to be
passed to continue with the next level. -
Performance reports
After each course stage a performance report will be written and sent to the parents as well as to the prospective boarding school. The report comprises detailed information about the student's achievements inside and outside the classroom. -
Transition to a boarding school
After the successful completion of at least level B2.2 (and the school transition course, if requested), the student will start her/his secondary education studies at the respective boarding school. We will assist our students in the necessary steps for the transition to the school of their choice.
Course duration
Students need to complete at least level B2 at the Humboldt-Institut before entering one of our partner boarding schools. The duration of the German course depends on the student's prior knowledge: A total beginner needs at least 25 weeks to reach the target level. Some schools additionally request the participation at our 5-week school transition course after level B2, which comprises relevant knowledge of the most important school subjects and thus eases the transition from German course to secondary school.
Regular reports
During the German course program at the Humboldt-Institut the prospective school will receive periodic performance reports on the student with detailed information regarding the student‘s achievements and social behavior inside and outside the classroom. Those reports give a clear inside into the student's learning biography at the Humboldt-Institut.
Transition to the boarding school
Having completed the language program at the Humboldt-Institut and provided that all administrative details have been met, the student will then be transferred to the respective boarding school of her or his choice.
